Before you write

The app has a Help screen of its own — Settings → Help & about — covering how the app works and the rules of chess. There is also a one-minute tour of the board, which you can take again from Help at any time.

Common questions

Does it need a network?

No. Nothing in the app makes a network request of any kind, including playing someone next to you.

Playing nearby can’t find the other phone.

Open the Nearby screen on both devices and keep them close. Bluetooth must be on. Between two iPhones, Wi-Fi should also be switched on — it does not need to be joined to any network, which is what makes it work on a plane. Android needs the “Nearby devices” permission, which the app asks for once.

Where did my game go?

A game in progress is saved on the device and is still there when you come back, even after a restart. Finished games are kept in History — the last fifty of them. Deleting the app deletes them with it, because they were never stored anywhere else.

Can I get a game out of the app?

Yes. Open a finished game from History and share it as PGN, the notation lichess and chess.com both read.

Can I change the language?

Settings → Language. “System” follows the phone.
